Any ideas how to handle 1,000 items all in 1 catagory that making them out of stock

I have a product that i was carrying that for the time being i am not going to sell.

 

I of course don't want to remove all the items from the site. All items are in the same catagory and they are also are made by the same manifactures.

 

Any easy way to have it remove the add to cart button for this catagory or for this manifacture?

 

Any easy way to add a message to each product?

 

I know i can easly create an sql to remove with find and replace
