prestashop is rubbish

Recommended Posts

what a pile of dung,

templates don't install, databases dont install, modules don't position... what a useless waste of my time..

no matter what template I download an try to install either with FTP, or the them installer built into prestashop, it does not work.

12 years of working with websites, I have worked with Magento, Wordpress, Joomla.. no problems

damn, prestashop is just irritating

installed last night and databases installed first go.

Have looked at it before and had no problems installing or showing themes.

I am a newby to all the web stuff aswell. been using a PC for 1.5 yrs now.....

Tried to install magento first but keep getting errors maybe I am not changing enough files/pages/code access.

Why would you build a programme that to install I have to go and change each file to 777 or 775 because you programmed it to 644??????????

prestashop seems to be the best open source e-commerce software available ATM...

If it really rubbish and you are so experienced then build us all the perfect e-commerce software......

ive installed for a couple of people and upgraded a few times and not had a problem, i dont know what you must have been doing.

how many times did you try to install it. was it on local or live server .

It's on a live server, I have uninstalled and reinstalled prestashop 6 times now on the server and still have the same issues.. as I said, it is at the clients request that prestashop is used, if they didn't want it I would scrap it.. so far 12 hours of my time wasted and still the templates won't install correctly..

I have just installed the latest version available through the download page. 1.4....

Send me a copy of the theme and I will test it on my copy.

I will send you a copy of the url it is on and after any satisfaction/dis-satisfaction, I will completely

remove from all files both server and pc.

So the problem lies obviously between desktop and chair. Ever thought to check if your server meets the minimum requirements?

I am a newbie as well...working on my first store, it has been an experience. One thing I have learned, from life in general, you have to have patience; no matter what you do or where life takes you. I have 3 adult children; always preached to them, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. As the old saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day".

If the author of rubbish has had so much experience; rebuild it, see what he can come up with. I would like to see if he can do any better. Personally, I think Prestashop has done a good job. I will keep plugging a long, patience is the key.

Remember this is open source software. tweak it. I only know vb 2010 html javascript css. I know no php or smarty etc. but uless we change things for ourselves, we can't have everything.

This forum generally gets the help required eventually.

most of the guys here give voluntarily so helps from experiences.

also, take the newsletter block,, I have read these forums, done all the necessary changes and I still get the following error message when entering an email into the subscription box "Error during subscription"

I never have these issues with Magento, WordPress or Joomla, it just works....

Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? If you hate prestashop that much why don't you pass the job on to somebody who would like doing the job? If you really want to do the job change your attitude and try a more positive approach in order to give success a little chance. You are expecting troubles thus your are getting them.

would you mind posting some links to sites you've built on Magento, WordPress, or Joomla? I'm wondering how "sophisticated" (read: good) they could be if you're struggling with the basics of Prestashop...

12 years doesn't tell us much about how competent you are. I've met people with a decade of experience before that churn out some Geocities-like sites and think they're works of art.

Maybe simondavidson is frustrated with Prestashop, I know I am.

I give Prestashop credit for an easy to install and get up and running package but what I really find interesting is the lack of unit testing or any bundled testing for that matter. Complex controllers, well they deviate from what a normal controller should do in MVC

For any system I build I run at least 3 environments, dev, test and production, I depend on unit testing and automated deployment to keep my application environments in sync and happy. Prestashop is a nightmare to configure for automated deployment and the main gripe I have is .... if the version is not STABLE don't label each new version as STABLE

@ OP, you've worked with websites for 12 years with no problems? That's a fucking laugh. Why don't you learn the goddamn platform and figure out what you're doing wrong before you start pointless threads because you've actually got to do some work and you're unwilling to do it?

@simondavidson

If you are having problems, i suggest you start topics asking people for help, and not topics that just whine about not being able to do something and then start rubbishing Prestashop.

As mentioned above by someone else.....why take the job on if you don't like, or don't have the knowledge or expertise to install and customise Prestashop for your client. I don't like using Magento, so there is no way I would take a client on that wishes to use it.

I suspect your "12 years website experience" is actually experience of using installatron or softuclous to easily install Magento, Joomla and Wordpress and then install templates created by someone else and then taking the credit for all the "hard work". As soon as you actually need to fix something your stumped.
