Modules Translation Error

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

When I try to open the translation tab for modules I only get a nasty 500 error.

The other translation tabs work fine, but not the modules tab. I have not added any module, nor have I touched the existing ones.

Anybody else encountered the same problem?

Henrik

PS version 1.4.6.2

Hi Henrik,

This can potentially be a permissions issue. Can you please try following the directions here and let me know if that resolves it for you?

Tried it. No change. Everything is now 755. In the case of the guy at the link you provided he seems to have a problem with the translations in general. In my case it is only for the modules translations. Weird.

Still the same 500 error. I confirm that the "display errors" work since I got debug information on another page at a moment while the db was unavailabe.

I have another site running on the same server but on version 1.4.4. That one works. On the other hand, I downloaded and tested v 1.5.0.5on the same server. Doesn't work (internal server error). It seems I am the only one experiencing this problem since nobody else reported it.

Who is your hosting provider?

Thank you again, Mike. I will talk to them. However, since version 1.4.4 does work and 1.4.6.2 and above doesn't... Don't know. Tomorrow I will test 1.4.6.2 with another provider (where I have a third site working on version 1.4.4) and see what happens.

The worst thing that can happen is that I have to hardcode or do some phpadmin work on those few modules that I'd like to modify.

All the best

Henrik

  • 3 weeks later...

@contractor,

No unfortunately not. I went and edited the xml-files directly. In my case I only had to touch one module (wishlists) and one language (italian) so there was no use investigating further. On the same server I have other ps-installations where everything works. There are two differences between those installations and the "criminal" one:

- Here I have 7000 products while in the other I have less than 20.

- Here I installed some extra modules, for instance export orders, top horizontal menu etc.

The reasons must be one of those. I have no other explanation.

Best Regards

How much memory (RAM) do you have on your server?

Error 500 is usually caused by incorrect permissions, or out of memory erorrs.

You can also check the error log in your cpanel (try to go to the translation page again so the error will show up in the log).

Hi Tomerg,

I'm using a VPS server with 1Gb RAM and the error log which appear in Cpanel when I try to update translations is :

File does not exist: /home/construc/public_html/500.shtml, referer: http://construct-online.ro/adm123/index.php?tab=AdminTranslations&lang=ro&type=modules&token=16ca402bc7adf05aa83d52806bf76623

Permissions for folders are set to 755 and 644 for files .

Do you have any suggestions ?

Alin

And for today we have in error_log a lot of errors like

[22-Mar-2012 18:56:45] PHP Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 17563648) (tried to allocate 1966080 bytes) in /home/..../public_html/tools/smarty/compile/f27dc4e1b698e029aabf7f79ae07dbedfc9836c6.file.product.tpl.php on line 757 .

No, it has nothing to do with it.

If that out of memory error is from your machine, then your host may have a hard coded limit of 16MB ram on your server, check it with them.

You can also try to copy your site to your local machine (you can use WAMP) and see if you have the same issue.
