1.5 Milestones

Recommended Posts

I know you guys don't like setting deadlines and adopt a more 'its done when its done' approach, but is there anyway to put some sort of estimate on the milestones?

I notice all but the Multi-Store are marked as complete, thats 13/14, but progress is at 70%. I'm curious as if we regard 1.5 development as having started last summer, at 70% that would mean a couple of months left to run? Has the Multi-Store still got quite a bit of development involved?

Also like to thank you for the Media Kit section. I'd made a thread a month or so ago about this and I think you responded Mike. Very useful stuff :)

Thanks!

Mark

Hi Mark,

First of all, I'm glad I could help with the Media Kit, I definitely pushed for it on the new site.

As for the Milestones page, I don't have the specific development details, but I do know that multistore truly is a pretty involved process when it comes to the coding side. Additionally, part of the timeline that is not explicitly listed there is the increase in testing we are doing before the final release. We want version 1.5 to be the best, most stable release we've ever had, and we're doing everything we can to ensure that is the case.

If thoroughly checking and testing this new version means it takes a little longer to release, we believe that is an appropriate trade-off because this is the livelihood of more than 100,000 active stores worldwide, and they count on our software every single day.

The Milestones page is our first step at more transparency throughout the development process, so I would recommend that you keep an eye on our progress there. Additionally, please keep using our beta versions, as those will help us reach our goals during testing.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the response, all sounds good to me!

I'm anxious to get using 1.5, as I'm sure a lot of other people are as the betas look very promising.

Mark

Yes we know, and the calls for us to release it get louder every day. That is why we're putting in some really long hours to ensure it lives up to all the hype and expectations. We think you'll be very pleased with the final result :P

Can you tell me any news on release date on PRESTASHOP V 1.5 ? We are really in very bad condition. Please try to understand.

Hi PS4,

This is a community project, so if you would like to see it sooner, please download the latest beta, agree to send us data during the installation, test it out and post any specific comments you may have on it here. The more active testers we have, the sooner we can put out an RC version!

Mike, is there a way to submit more consistent patches than attaching a ZIP file in the forge ?

About testers, don't you have some kind of automated testing system ?

It's too empiric to rely on beta testers to hunt bugs and regressions.

We do have our own testers as well, but we are an open-source, community-driven project, so the more testers we have from our active community, the better we can identify areas for improvement. That doesn't just mean bugs. If there is something that maybe is lacking from an ergonomics or usability perspective, there is no replacement for our active users and community members when it comes to identify areas where we can improve this release.

As for the Forge, that is right now the best way to submit your patches, but I invite you post it to the link I posted above as well to make sure our team sees it sooner.

Ok, then why not put the code on GitHub ?

We could help in a more reliable way, and maybe it will not take 2 months or more.

There are chances that the code will end up in GitHub, so it would be better for you to anticipate and create an official account, for us to push there.

I found this old clone of the 1.3 version : https://github.com/pal/prestashop
