Apache takes Ownership of files - cannot change permissions

Recommended Posts

Hello :-)

I've been having some problems with changing permissions on
my IMG folder (amongst others) and the files and folders inside it.

When I try to chmod to 0777 using my FTP program, I get the message
that I don't have permission to carry out this operation.

When I log on to my server, I find that the ownership of some files has been changed.
Current owner Apache.

I have to retake ownership of the files first.
After that I can chmod again.

This has happened 3 times this month.

Can anyone tell me if this is a prestashop problem?
Or is it my hosting company?

Thanks,

Sanook

That would be an issue with your hosting company, the server is changing the ownership of your files for some reason.

Yeah was afraid of that already.

I can't really isolate the problem.
It occurs every now and then after I added or changed some products in my cataloque.

Normally things run smoothly, but sometimes I can't even view my shop anymore.
You don't have permission to view this page.

Will talk to my hosting company

Thanks for your reply, Prestabase.

Take care na :-)

Right now I cannot even connect to my site.
When I open it, it says:

"You don't have permission to access this document"

Since my (crappy) hosting company doesn't reply my mails, I was wondering if someone
knew why the server is taking over the ownership of my files?

Which apache? setting should be changed to prevent this from happening?

Thanks,

Sanook

Hi Sanook, did you find any solution to this problem. I am facing the same trouble. Everything was working fine for weeks and suddenly all folder and files created by prestashop were owned by apache, so i could not modify images, xml files and so on. If I install a module, I cannot delete the folder afterward if required, or i cannot modify any of its files.
The tech support of the hosting company says there is no solution.
Did you found any?

Regards

It's from the hosting company, i have the same issue. Using unix hosting with Plesk Control panel.

The fix to modify the part of the prestashop scripts that creates files and folders, but i don't know where / how.

PHP runs as user "apache" and obviously creates folders / files on the server with ownership to apache:apache. The only solution is to use the ftp function from the application to create folders / files.
