Translations - looking ahead

Recommended Posts

I have long advocated a collaborative i18n approach like G3.

Now it's becoming easier to implement. I would urge the developers to check out the GlotPress project. The project is still in flux, and not everything is crystal clear, and I can't say whether or not PS must adopt this. But it is a promising approach, and PS should look at it closely and seriously consider whether to use this for future releases.

Hi OC2PS,

It is indeed an interesting idea.

For information, we have already started working on a collaborative translation tool.

This way it should be a lot easier to have 100% complete translation for many languages and to drastically reduce the time needed to translate.

I will tell you more about it once we have made some progress.

That's great! As I mentioned in the linked post, because collaborative work does not depend on one particular translator, the probability is very high that 100% translations for most languages can be maintained at all times.

The benefit of GlotPress could be that you can just plug into what would be a stable, open system (bugs would be found and quashed quickly as the system would be used by literally millions) and PS developers won't have to reinvent the wheel - they's just have have to hook up into the system.

You can check out the sample interface at http://translate.wor...bbpress/plugin/

Any progress over this planning?
