Flat rate shipping, combined shipping... How to?

Recommended Posts

Here is how my client currently does shipping (btw, if this matters, he only ships USPS Priority Mail within the US and Canada--Express is allowed for international orders):

Each item has a shipping cost. Let's say item A costs $5 to ship within the US and Canada, and item B costs $7. Any second item adds $1 to the shipping. So buying item A and item B would cost $7 + $1 (most expensive shipping is the one that gets paid in full, obviously) for a total shipping of $8.

So he doesn't want to calculate shipping based on either price or weight; he wants to keep his flat rates and have additional items automatically add $1.

Then there is a flat rate that is additional to that if it's international. I think it's $20 for USPS Priority Mail and $35 for USPS Express Mail. I need to know how to automatically add one of the two (obviously let the customer choose) if they're shipping to somewhere other than the US or Canada. I need to make sure they can't skip the international shipping charge somehow in the checkout process.

Can someone walk me through this? Do I do this stuff as part of adding a product or is it at some other time? I'm very new to PrestaShop and it's got quite a learning curve.

The presatshop default shipping module can only be set up by price or by weight. It cannot be configured in the way you are looking for.

However, you can be creative with it and you could possibly configure it in a way that works for you.

For example. Use the weight base shipping and give all products an equal weight, say 5lbs. Then you could set up your weight ranges like this:

0lbs - 5lbs = $7

5lbs - 10lbs = $8

10lbs - 15lbs = $9

15lbs - 20lbs = £10

The one item (5lbs) would cost £7, and additional item (total 10lbs) and charge $8 etc.

This may not be precisley what you are looking for but it just demonstartes that you can be creative.

If this doesn't work for you unfortunately you would need to search for a 3rd party module that does what you need.

  • 7 months later...

I've been looking for a similar thing for nearly a year and not found it yet! I've set up some of my products as Dave L suggests (posted this one before!

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/123087-shipping-settings-for-products/page__fromsearch__1

This successfully sorted out my zoning issue, however I've never implimented it as I can't get the flat rate shipping to work along side it. e.g. Some products that could be collected, would have to be charged to the other zones, but I don't want PS to apply each item's carriage charge against it but rather a bulk carriage. For my faster moving items I managed to get around this buy adding a product called 'carriage' which the customer has to purchase. However this is very tempremental as most customers forget!

Any more suggestions are always appreciated!
