Are
Hello, i have used oscommerce for many online shops but prestashop got my intention and for many reasons i decided to give it a try. Everything went smooth until stuck at Database configuration where i tried every combination i could think off. im running several other mysql databases and all is well. I have set up a prestashop and i can use it from mysql promt as well as phpmyadmin. I cant se any errors in logfiles and need help to get past this. Your database connection settings are not valid. Please check your server, name, login and prefix. Please help me debug this. Tia /are
maconl
hi, Are here the same , after years being using and building OSC shops decided to try prestashop , i'm still busy with building , but sofar it suits me great but ok back to your problem perhaps a little typo ? just doubble check database name database user , database password Database servername = yourdatabase_name Database Name = yourdatabase_name database engine = innoDB login = root before you go on and to check , you can press the button " Verify Now " you see straight away if prestashop connects the database

Carl Favre
Yes, the best would also be to post the issue on the bug tracker. This way a developper can check it.

coverup
I found a solution!, i'm not sure if my solution will work for you. But, to get an idea i will share my story (also posted on bug tracker) -------------------------------------------------------------- ..I have the same problem with 1.4.8.3 This error is very strange I can install using IIS and MySQL without problems, then when i move to a unix sistem using Apache & MySQL this error show up. All the server is updated using the lastest version of everything, fresh install from zero. Everything well configured. I also install phpyAdmin for MySQL administration without problems (this is the first proof of a well configured server) Then i tried to install prestashop, just like before.. ALL the step 2 is on Green status but then, on step 3 the following message appear: "Your database connection settings are not valid. Please check your server, name, login and prefix." Of course, all the parameter are ok. including proper CHMOD (I also test 777 on all the site and subdirectories) and user proviledges on system and DB. I also make a little PHP script, to test my DB data. <?php $enlace = mysql_connect('localhost', 'myadminuser', 'myadminpass'); if (!$enlace) { die('No pudo conectarse: ' . mysql_error()); /* Can't connect */ } echo 'Conectado satisfactoriamente'; /* connected satisfactory */ mysql_close($enlace); ?> And work!!! But the prestashop install, don't. I also edit the classes/mysql.php archive to bypass the form variables and hard code the db info doing this i solve momentarily the error message but of course the table creation don't work, so i still stuck on step 3. ---------------------------------------------------- By the way, if you search on google you will find a lot of people with this issue, and no solution. install log and php logs don't show nothing bad. Prestashop Version 1.4.8.3 installed on var/www/ default root directory MySQL Server: Localhost via UNIX socket Server version: 5.5.24 Protocol Version: 10 Usuario: myadminuser@localhost character type MySQL: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8) Web server Apache/2.2.22 Client version: 5.5.24 PHP extension: mysqli PHP Version 5.3.14 Server installation info (YUM) php-mysql php php-xml php-mcrypt php-mbstring php-cli mysql httpd -------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, this is one of these situations in which you solve the problem, without knowing what was wrong exactly. I don't like to unknow the real problem, but the important thing is that i solve it. now the important thing.. how? [yum upgrade] So pick one of these options below, as a possible solution to this problem. benjamin utterback
Thank you coverup for your story. I have found that the best hosting provider for PrestaShop is BlueHost, 99% of shops do not need a dedicated server. You can sign up for bluehost and have close to zero server issues ever. You can install PrestaShop with simple script in 30 seconds. It's really cool. Check it out at www.bluehost.com/prestashop
crestron_modules
Well, I had the same issue that during Prestashop installation the database connection won't establish. Believe it or not, I was using a complex password and as soon as I changed it to a normal password (caps and special char.) it works perfectly!!! try to put a simple password for testing the then change it. rakan34
If the same settings work on another jdbc based connection, then it's your firewalls or network settings. If your other system is not using identical methods to connect (by which I mean Bitbucket has a connection string, username, password etc, and your other system is using a different format like host, port, username, password, or something else), then can you show us the comparison you've made? What do they both look like? DigitalOcean SiteGround iPage Edited December 12, 2018 by rakan34 (see edit history)
