[Solved] - Off line sales

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am moving my shop premises in January, and when I do I will be using POSmaid for my in store stock control/sales. Will I be able to say upload daily sales to my e commerce database, to ensure I dont sell out of stock items online?

Hi James,

Sorry for the late reply.  :-[

Exporting daily sales from POSmaid (or any other POS app for that matter) and importing them into PrestaShop in order to accurately manage inventory can be done, but how easily is another question.

It largely depends on how POSmaid exports its data.  For PrestaShop v1.0 we are planning to include a bulk lister, which will enable the import of product information (including quantities) into the PrestaShop product database.  At first the bulk lister will import data in common formats (XML?); as times goes on, more formats will be added.  If it turns out that POSmaid can export data into a format that is easily read by PrestaShop v1.0, then Bob's your sister's brother.

However, if POSmaid exports data in such a way that they cannot be read by PrestaShop, then separate development will be required.

In the meantime, keeping your brick-and-mortar inventory and your online inventory separate may not be a glamorous solution, but it is fairly effective: when you sell out of a particular item online, simply transfer stock from the physical shop to the online shop.  The time delay between when you discover a product is out of stock online and when you can replenish it is indeed unfortunate; be sure to install and use the Mail Alert module (included but not activated by default) to send you an e-mail the second stock reaches 0 for a particular item.

(I've just tested the Mail Alert feature on 0.9 and it doesn't seem to be working; I hope we'll be able to fix it before 9.1 is released.)
