Ssl Setup With Shared Certificate

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I am trying to set up SSL encryption with a shared certificate from my web host. I have successfully obtained the certificate, but am having trouble enabling the SSL encryption from the presta back end.

So first I go to SEO & URLs, and set both my Shop domain name and Shop domain name for SSL to the same thing:

mysite.com

Next I go to Preferences tab and click "Please click here to enable HTTPS protocol before enabling SSL".

After clicking that, I get a 404 page not found error.

Anyone know what is going on, or what I should do next?

Thanks!

First change the SEO & URL files back to the non SSL url and save, regenerate htaacces.

Now logout of BO and type the address to your admin with the included SSL name in url.

https://myshop.ssl.com/shop (example)

Now when you log in you should be in the BO under SSL (https) you mat get another message about url rewright if so generate htaaccess again and now enable SSL.

Now go to SEO & URLs and set both addresses to the SSL Url and save.

For better safe then sorry's sake generate htaaccess again then try clicking view my shop.

Thanks. I follow these steps and still get the 404 error.

In my case, there is no difference between the non SSL URL and the SSL URL from the webhost. Both are myshop.com.

However, my shop is running at myshop.com/presta and the SSL certificate is for myshop.com. Maybe there is a problem with having the shop in the .../presta folder. Maybe I'll try removing the /presta subfolder?

Ok, original problem is fixed. I had to purchase a static IP from the webhost to enable the SSL.

I now have the SSL enabled for my site, but when the site tries to go to a secure connection, I get an untrusted error from the browser:

I am using a shared key from the web host. Is the only way to get rid of the trust error to buy a unique SSL key?

Thanks.

[solved] - my issues were:

-needed to purchase a dedicated IP address from the web host. This ended the 404 errors.

-needed to purchase a unique SSL certificate. This ended the untrusted errors from the browsers when making a secure connection.

Anyone know how to mark the topic as solved? Thanks.

This worked perfectly for me on my store, thanks for the information ...
