SirNewbie
Hey, I am trying to set up SSL for my site. From the preferences tab, there is a link "Please click here to use HTTPS protocol before enabling SSL". When I click the link, It gives me an error message. from Firefox: "You attempted to reach mysite.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as *.stablehost.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of mysite.com. You should not proceed." I am using Stablehost for webhosting, and have already setup an SSL Key and certificate through them. (shared key). Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Also, I have seen a couple comments that it is better to use your own SSL certificate rather than use a shared certificate, but haven't seen any explanation on why this is the case. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
tdr170
Have you set Shop domain name for SSL under SEO & URLs. I have set this up and can tell you a shared SSL has some issues. Under SEO & URLs you will have to change both addresses to reflect the ssl address otherwise your shop will go back and forth between domains (example) http://mysite.com/shop and https://mysite.ipage.com are two differnt domains. First make sure that both of these are set to your site without the SSL part of the address mysite.com/shop. Then go to enable SSL when you click to enable the program will want to direct you to https://mysite.com/shop which is incorrect for your shared key. When you get this message just click go there anyway or whatever your option is to continue. Then you will probably have to sign back in go to prefernces and chack yes to enable ssl. Then go to SEO & URL and change both addresses to your shared SSL URL. after you have all this set up regenerate your htaaccess and all should be ok. Also retype your URL to your back office with the included SSL url such as www.mysite.ipage.com/shop/admin and resave this new adderess to your bookmarks or favorites. Need more just let me know.

tdr170
No you should be Ok the cetificate will cover the entire domain. If you type https://mysite.com/shop into your browser do you get the shop or the 404 error. If you get an error I am going to assume your host is Stablehost. Try this type https://mysite.stablehost.com/shop and see what happens. If stable host is your service provider this would probably be the correct address for a shared SSL. My host Is Ipage for me to use the shared SSL I use https://mysite.ipage.com/shop If I try to go to https://myshop.com/shop I get a warning that this may be currupt and I am attemting to use a SSL not assigned to this site or some s$#@ like that. I do however at least get a continue anyway button.
