Multiple domains, Google Analytics and SEO

Hi guys,

i need some advice on the following;

I've got two top level domains registered for my shop: example.com and example.nl

I'm now redirecting all the traffic that lands on the .com domain to the .nl domain where the real site is located.

So the .com domain only exist for redirection.

The problem is that I can't receive any Google Analytics data from all the people that land on the .com domain and get redirected. The only thing I see in my Analytics dashboard at the .nl domain is that there's a lot of traffic coming from my .com domain.

I was thinking about using an alias but then I heard that this is terrible for your SEO...

Any suggestions how I can get analytics data from my .com domain?

regards,

-Dave

Hello!

I do not think you can use Google Analytics for the .com domain. The script, that registers the activity, can not be run because the redirect event occurs sooner. But you can use Awstats (if you have Cpanel) to check the traffic, visitor number, visitors' location etc.

It is also bad for SEO to have an example.com and example.nl

If the redirect is 301 then after a while the .com domain will not appear in the search results.
