Why do home page requests get a 301 redirect

When ever a browser calls my site canineconcepts.co.uk, it is automatically 301 redirected to canineconcepts.co.uk/en

 

I am not sure if I should be concerned about this from an SEO perspective or not.

 

Any thoughts?

Because you have multiple languages activated and the shop default language is English. When a visitor who did not specifically change the language and preserved that setting by keeping the cookie placed visits, they are redirected to /en

No. try this: visit http://google.se and the first response is a 301 redirect. 301 redirects is a part and parcel of how everything works.
