mr-t
Good Evening, this is my first time using PrestaShop and I'm having an issue with my Catalog. The Background - At first I practiced uploading products manually, when I was comfortable with this I tried importing using a CSV file. All was going well until I planned to do one final test, my CSV file was created, and i'm confident this is ok, and I have all my images uploaded into the correct directory (as specified within my CSV file), however I made one very big small mistake!! The Error - when selecting the import details I forgot to change 'Select which entity to import' from Categories to Products. I rushed through the remainder of the import options and ended up in a state of error. The Outcome - I now seem to have 'looping' subcategories that link to each other with no products, please view the website here http://aniasphotography.co.uk/albums/. I have tried to delete these subcategory but get a '500 Internal Server Error'(see attached file), when I try to add further subcategory I get the same message. So at the moment I can not add or delete categories. Any help is much appreciated, please let me know if you need further information. Mike Kranzler
Hi Mr. T, In this situation, the best thing to do is probably to just delete the CSV file and try again. Just be sure not to rush it this time, I pity the fool who has to do this a third time . You can delete this file via FTP through the admin/import directory. I hope this helps. -Mike
mr-t
Thanks for the reply Mike. There seems to be progress I deleted the bad upload via ftp, the shopping cart was then empty, which seemed good. However, under Admin I could still see the bad subcategories. I decided anyway to re-upload the CSV file, now I can see all the products in the admin area (which I couldn't see before), however the shopping cart still appears empty, and I can still not delete or add subcategories manually!! Does this sound like I could be doing something else wrong? I was thinking of creating new categories via CSV ( i have not attempted this yet!) if this was successful I might then be able to delete the 'bad' ones! Thanks again for your help. I was very close to deleting the whole PrestaShop software and re-installing!!
Mike Kranzler
Hi mr-t, I'm glad you're making progress! Is the shopping cart empty in the Front Office or Back Office? -Mike
mr-t
Hi Mike, Sorry I'm new to these terms, would I be guessing correctly if I said the front office is the information that is live for all to see and the back office is the Admin areas? If I'm correct here then with regards to my previous post, my shopping cart was empty in the front office. I have tried a few different things to get this to work, but I'm not sure if I'm creating more problems. I managed to get new categories uploaded, with products in them but now my images do not appear!! I feel like I need to start over again by deleting all my categories/products and re-uploading, but for some reason I still can not manually remove or edit categories, I can only change them using CSV import!! Very confused. The only thing that keeps me smiling is knowing that I'm learning a lot of things that I should NOT be doing, the future's bright! Mike Kranzler
Hi mr-t, You are correct sir! Those are our universal terms for the two sides of your PrestaShop. In terms of your category issues, have you tried re-creating them under the Catalog section of the Back Office yet? -Mike
janehaselden
I have the exact same problem. I accidently imported my .csv of products but forgot to change the import to Products instead of Categories. Now I can do nothing with the catalogue. I have deleted all products (I had only added 10). I also deleted all categories and now I am left with just the one category which used to be called Home, but has now called itself Test 03 (which I guess was the name of the errant .csv file). I cannot delete it in the back office as it is the only category. I cannot add a subcategory because it returns "Internal Error". I cannot add a product because it says "2 errors: product must be in at least one Category product must be in the default category What can I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I paid for an installation and if I have to reinstall, I will have wasted all that money.
