does php redirection penalize site in google search?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I installed my shop on www.mydomain.com/shop. As I found the .htacess system confusing, i thought I could just set an index.php on the base domain redirecting everything to /shop/.

the code on my index.php file in the base directory reads like:

<?php

header('Location: http://mydomain.com/shop');

?>

This simply works fine for navigation, but now i'm not sure wether this might penalize or not my site on google, because all the info about redirection I read mention the .htacess 301 system and warn about duplicate content penalization. I'm scared I get that penalty, but I'm not sure.

Also I set the php instruction to mydomain, without the 'www' thingy, I just copied the recipe somewhere from the web, is it ok?

hi, gotlivechat, ty for your answer.

Yes, got google analytics and webmaster. They don't report any bad practice or duplicate content on my site. What quizzes me is I got many very good rankings for certain searches, but for a generic one I target (mine is 'children shoes' in spanish) I sit currently around #135, wich is clearly horrible.

I tried to tune up the main page to this search, and thus managed to bounce up from #195, but still I feel #135 is useless. I know 'children shoes' must be a quite competitive search. My puzzlement is how many sites with worse or sparse relevant content rank before me.

I wonder how would you rank the impact of this factors in google placement:

a - I don't have set friendly urls

b - My site is very new, its barely two months old now

c - My site adds up to 1500 visits now. Like 23 a day first month, 35 a day this month, currently increasing to 60 a day. Should I suppose all over me in page ranking fare better than me? How does daily visits weight versus content in google rank?

Ty, I hope you dont find this rant too noobish :)
