Prevent Categories to show up if no products associated

Recommended Posts

Any one know if there is a way to prevent categories or subcategories to show up in the categories list if there is no products associated with them?

Reason: I would like to upload/configure the structure of the product catalog an launch the site before all products are uploaded, without having the visitors seeing a lot of empty categories.

Best regards Chris

Absolutlly non-practical to code such thing.

The categories are created manually and there is no problem to hide them when you wont need them.(1 click when creating them)

Then the products in the empty directory will be published manually, so it wont be hard to activate the directory before creating products. (3 clicks)

If the product and category creation was somehow automatic, then maybe such thing will be usefull, but now it is waste of time.

I had wasted more time typing this post than he disabling hte categories.

I think what Kintaro wants is to hide a category/subcategory if empty and show if not empty?

Yes, exactly. If one person create the structure of the shop and you have several people adding products, it would be valuable for them if they did not have to check if the Displayed box is ticked or not, especially if you have a product connected to several categories. (E.g. wheel house chrome ribs, could be connected to a car brand, to the overall category of "Chrome", car brand category "Mercedes Bentz" and also the model of R170, and the category of "Wheel hous chrome ribs", i.e. 4 categories. )

If not possible we have to do with the manual procedures and add that check for each category connected to a product.

If any one might have a more neat solution it would be great :-P
