One page checkout hanging

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I am getting some customer complaints that the one-page checkout is hanging when hey select the payment types. The checkout area is being greyed out with the rotating timer displaying and not going away.

I am on version 1.4.2.5 and I am not able to reproduce the problem in our office. Customers seem to suggest the problem is isolated to IE browsers.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Mike, thats kind of you.

I have not been able to reproduce the problem either. I have seen the problem occur, but it does not occur very often and appears random (some customers have complained about it - but not many). I put the post up to see if others are coming across it - I guess we have just wait and see.

  • 1 month later...

Just to say, we still get some customers complaining of this. We occassionally get the problem, but not enough to be able to analyse it - it seems completely random.

Interestingly, yesterday I went on to the demo website for the 'one page checkout' module that is for sale on the presta addons section - and bang, the screen hung one me. It just sat there with the spinning wheel.

Not that I can see, I have only seen it on Firefox and I am on the latest version.

Strange that it also happened with one of the third party modules I looked at (see below).

We do about 1,000 orders a month and we get maybe 4-5 customers a month complaining of this. So its not a large proportion, but I do wonder how many just give up and go elsewhere that we never hear about. Over the last six months, I have seen it happen 7-8 times.

I wish I could be more helpful

Thanks Mike, sadly this is about half what we got before we moved to Presta. To be honest, as a company we are struggling to hold on. Google has punished us heavily since we moved to Prestashop (July11) and we have not been able to regain our ranking yet. I dont think is anything to do with core prestashop, but as I mentioned in a different correspondance with you, some of the purchased modules have been a big problem. My site has about 4000 pages, but google has nearly 100,000 in its index. About half of these are mistakes I make in the implementation, the other half are due to poor module design. I have all sorts of 'experts' on the case, but no one has yet pin pointed the problem.

Sorry, back to your question. We used the original theme that came with Presta, then make modifications ourselves. My version is 1.4.2.5. I really cant give you much to go on, and as I have said, I have seen it on other Presta sites.

Phunter, I do not have a solution to the problem you report in original post.

But here are a couple of things you could do to help you get back up in Google (if you haven't already done them):

1. Use 301 redirects (preferably with htaccess) from old shop's URLs (e.g. product pages) to new ones so that your pages that were already indexed and highly rated by Google, and linked to from other sites are not lost.

2. In Google webmaster tools, you can exclude pages from Google index so that you can remove the implementation mistakes etc.

Mike, I have managed to reproduce the hanging checkout.

http://canineconcepts.co.uk

1. add item to cart and click checkout

2. add delivery address details

3. check the box "please use other address for invoice"

4. DO NOT add any invoice address details

5. Click a payment option

6. BANG Screen hangs with spinning wheel

Now, at first I thought this may have been as a result of changes to my template. But, yesterday I purchased the "One page checkout for 1.4" module and interestingly the exact same thing happened with that module. The good news is that the module support person ([email protected]) fixed the problem. The module uses an overide class customer.php and it was in here that it was fixed.

Hi Mike

I have now actually switched to the One Page Checkout Module for sale in the addons section..

But I was consistantly reproducing the error and also found the same error on the new module.

It would be worth you sending a quick email to the developer of the above module. He was able to reproduce the problem and made a fix to customer.php. (email: prestamodules at gmail.com)

Sorry Mike, I should have explained better.

My issue was with the native one page checkout. But, when I installed the purchased 'one page checkout', the exact same problem occured. Which lead me to think that the purchased checkout module is using some of the native code.

The purchased module has a number of files that are placed in the overide/classes library, one of which is customer.php.

The developer of the purchased module reproduced the problem, then fixed it within the customer.php file in the overides/classes llibrary. It may be a complete conincidence that both checkouts had the exact same problem, but I thought it more likely that they share a lot of the same code, and therefore the a clue to the solution in the native chckout may be in the solution to the purchased one.

Peter

PS I realise that unless you can reproduce the problem, you can do very little. Just note that I had 'allow guest checkout' set to NO when using the native checkout.

OK, well thanks for the information. Unfortunately, my guess is that it has something to do with your specific configuration because this is not something we are able to replicate on our end and so far you're the only one with this specific complaint, but I will still pass this along to our developers to see if there is anything that can be done on our end that would work on your end without affecting those users who weren't having this issue.
