For mid-level SEO like me, i find optimizing ecommerce site difficult. I normally do it well in custom-built websites and my sites have good SERP for the keywords i target. It pays my rent!

CMSs like Drupal is also not that bad to optimize. I don't know other ecomm. systems, but this PS is a bit challenging. It has limited choice to play in terms of SEO. When i try to change things in the codes, i always have to ask as it's complex! Ihave some blocks on my homepage that i don't want to be crawled by bots etc...

Do you know a well performing PS that has good SERP for its target keywords?

Agree, that some times custom-built websites is easier to optimaize, but when I started working with presta I found that is pretty SEO friendly system, you just need to use it proper. And I'm not talking about codes changes, but about proper use of titles, descriptions, alt tags, headings, robots.txt, friendly url and etc.

One of mine prestashop store is #1 with targeted keyword

Other #5 in google SERP

Google doesn't give love to my homepage and product pages.

you can write my your url and keywords, In few days I can have a look on it and see what could be done better

Hi,

great looking online store!

To improve SEO I would do these steps:

1. Put keywords at the beggining of the meta title

suggestion: Lingerie | Sexy Lingerie | Specialist in Australia

2. Put keywords at the beggining of the meta description:

suggestion: Sexy lingerie and bodystoking specialist in Australia. Love Station guaranteed quality at lowest price + FREE shipping. Why pay more?

3. Meta keywords reduce to 5 or less.

4. Make some internal link with the keyword in anchor tex:

suggestion: add link to your products category at the home page "Welcome to view our large range of sexy lingerie and bodystocking at Love Station lingerie online shop"

5. Change shop logo alt tag

sugestion: Australian Sexy lingerie specialist

That would be my suggestions to improve your on-site SEO and of course try find ways to get more backlinks, for this check what backlinks has your competitors and try to get them, write blog about your online store.

Good luck! :)

Hi Radiator

Great that you have offered this. I am a complete novice and have back in June of this year created my site but am struggling with page rank so really need to look at my SEO.

My website address is http://www.agelessamber.com - this frontpage was created using Serif WebPlus X4 and then the Prestashop store is http://www.agelessamber.com/store

My main target is United Kingdom - although I have just these last few weeks set it up to accept worldwide orders but non so far.

You ask for keywords - the keywords I have used for example in a product page is baroque, baltic amber, teething necklace, cognac, magnetic clasp, teething jewellery, teething pain, amber teething jewellery, teething accessory, teething equipment.

This is probably way too many!

Any advise will be greatly appreciated as i do believe I need to make serious changes to the SEO to get a better ranking.

Many thanks for your generous offer and I will look forward to hearing from you shortly.

kind regards

Chelle

Hi Silki,

ok, lets see what could be done better:)

1. Show google what is your prefered domain name (www or non-www). That helps google understand what is your exact url and how to show it in search results. This set up you can easy make with google webmaster tools.

2. Generate robots.txt file. Prestashop can automatically generate this file. Find it in BO/tools/generators.This file helps google better to know what page to cralw or nor.

3. Create sitemap.xml and submit it with google webmaster tools. That lets google better understand your site structure.

4. Home page title. Put your shop name gooddeals.ch in the end or remove, it not necessarily to be here.

5. Home page meta description is too short, try too reach 150 characters.

6. I don't see home page meta keywords, try to put not more then five, it's not so important for google, but gives some value for yahoo and bing search engines.

7. There is some space to improve your site loading speed. I get these important suggestions with firefox debug speed analyzer:

- Optimize images (try to see if it's possible to reduce home page banner images size without loosing quality, some times it works good with www.imageoptimizer.net)

- Leverage browser caching

- Enable compression

8. Make better categories descriptions. Try add more content, put few keywords related with this category, that would be better for visitors and for google.

What about product pages, I think that there is everything ok :)

Hope that helps and you'll have more visitors and most important - more sales :)

Good luck!

Hi Chelle,

thanks for interesting.

Lets see how we can improve your SEO and help people easier find your beautiful products :)

Home page:

1. First you need to decide what is your targeted keywords for this page. Choose not more 3-4 keywords that best

describes your store products. Choose keywords that you could target to narrow niche, it helps to reach you better SERP and conversion.

2.Title is too long, try fit in 64 characters including spaces. First write your keywords, your shop name at the end.

3. Meta Description Tag is too long. Try to use not more then 150 characters.

4. The keywords meta tag contains too many keywords, five would be more then enought.

Store home page:

1. Title is not infomative, you need to put phrases with keywords not only shop name.

2. No meta descrpition tag

3. No meta keywords tag

4. No Headings h1, h2,h3 tags.

In generally your site is quite SEO friendly, have many content. But main problem is with your keywords,

you have to define what keywords fits best for you and could bring most value. After that you'll need rewrite your meta tags.

Keywords research you can do by your self with Google keywords tool.

So, that would be my remarks, hope it helps :)

Regards

Many thanks for a super quick response. I will take a look at your points and do some research. Have a few clarification questions below your points if I may:

Homepage

Point 1

Main products are Amber Jewellery and Teething Bling. Should I use keywords like Amber, Teething, Jewellery, Bling to cover the keywords?

Point 2

Are you referring to Title of products? Could you give me an example please on how you would title a product looking at what I sell?

Point 4

So again I could use Amber, Teething, Jewellery, Pain, Relief for example?

Store homepage

Where do I look to adjust the above points in PS? Sorry still learning!

When I search google for amber teething necklace for instance I am not seen until over 20 odd pages so pretty frustrating. Hoping to get this cracked to get on page 1....

many thanks

Chelle

Hello,

here's my site to analyze:

URL: http://www.magazinoutdoor.ro

targeted country: Romania

keywords: bocanci militari

Thank you and waiting for your suggestions!

Hi,

It's a bit dificult for me because your site is non english, but let's try :)

1. You need to review your home page keywords. Try to find 2-3 keywords that best discribes your shop in common,

i.e. "Military equipment | Camping equipment |Online shop magazinoutdoor.ro" or something like that.

2. Create and submit sitemap.xml to google webmaster tools

3. Put in your logo "alt tag" sentence with the keywods.

4. I didn't find heading tag h1, h2 in your site. You can easy to do this with editorial module, write few sentece about your shop using keywords.

4. Write meta tag description more friendly for the visitor, not only stuff with the keywords.

5. You wrote that you are targeting with the keyword "bocanci militari" and I see that you are on page 3 in google. To reach better positions try to get some backlink to your page http://www.magazinoutdoor.ro/29-bocanci-militari . Make this category description more friendly and informative to visitors, not only fill with keywords.

That would be my suggestions, hope it helps :)

Good luck

Yes

Store homepage

Where do I look to adjust the above points in PS? Sorry still learning!

Find in back office Preferences / SEO (or Meta-Tags depending on your presta version) and edit index.php

Good look!

Good news and bad news: after 2 weeks of updating my site following your suggestion, my site is on first page by key word "sexy lingerie" that is very good news. However, my site has disappeared from google if search by "lingerie" which is bad news. I am not sure why is happening like this. Could you please have a quick look? (hope this is not asking too much) Thank you so much!
