Create new install, then migrate database over?

I copied my store over to a new site to use as a sandbox.

I upgraded it, had a few issues (all my products showed up twice)

and there was no depth to the website, but the front page mostly worked.

 

I installed a new theme compatible with 1.4.4.1

The entire front end went away.

 

Is it possible to just do a clean in stall of 1.4.4.1, and my new

theme, set it up the way I want, then migrate my current

database with customers, sales, products, etc over to the new

and pretty shop, without having to completely go through the

code and try to figure out what the heck is wrong?
