Pshopic
Did you check "Force compile" from back office under "Preference>>Performance". If it does not solve your problem, delete catch files.

lixotuka
Hello. I have the same problem. How did you repair or restore the default theme?
Adrenalin
Same issue.... got freggin italian or some junk on my page now. Ugh. Problem after problem in Prestashop... seriously looking for an alternative!
bellini13
the best way to do this is to download a free theme that is similar to the default theme. You would install this similar theme, which will update the positions to their default locations. Then you simply re-activate the default theme, and it should be back to normal. Search the free theme forum, and you will find themes that are identical to the default theme, just with different colors.
Adrenalin
Well, went to FTP, deleted entire site. Uploaded a backup I had, same issue. Marvelous.... have to start from complete scratch.
bellini13
well, if your backup has the new theme installed, then of course it will. did you even bother to read what was suggested?
Adrenalin
Of course I read... and of course the backup didn't have the theme. That would be obvious. Busy downloading a theme now. Let's pray.
bellini13
did you restore only the web backup, what about your database? theme configuration and positions of the various page elements are all defined in the database. so deleting and restoring only your web content would have not effect. Adrenalin
I restored every file. Not to sure what you mean by database,,, what file is that? also noticed that if I reset some of the modules, they re-appear on my site but in totally different positions. vekia
database isn't file. database is a "service" where all informations related to your shop are stored (like products, categories, whole configuration, and also modules configuration)
bellini13
at this point you are just doing more harm than good by guessing and not knowing what the repercussions of your actions are.
Adrenalin
Yeah, you're right. However the support is not forthcoming so I have to do things out of the ordinary. I've also read alot of posts that say the support is not good and they figure things out themselves so here I am.

vekia
you need to use some database manager like PHPMyAdmin, this software is usually available in webhosting control panels. YOu should check it on your own host account
Adrenalin
I do have access to a PHPMyAdmin tool. Lots of options on there as I used to run 3 websites before and now only 1 but never deleted the old information.
bellini13
so you had a backup copy of your website from prior to the theme change. Do you have a backup copy of your database taken at the same time? If not, then there is nothing you are going to be able to do to restore it. I have provided you with instructions for restoring your default theme positions, have you made an attempt to try?
Adrenalin
Yes I had a backup copy of the entire website, but not of the db because I have no idea where it is. Yes I have tried restoring the default positions, however it did not work. I tried that after installing the theme and seeing it was a bit messy. after that I downloaded a free one, installed it, and the positions we're all over the show as well. I'm going to start from scratch. Perhaps with opencart/wordpress/osCommerce etc.

nima_far
hello, I have the same issue also, I installed a theme called megashop, and after that eveything is changed, it disabled some modules and enabled others and I don't like the appearance at all, and I want to restore my shop appearance to default . but when I choose the default theme from settings, it's stil messed up , positions and everything. and unfortunately I didn't backup my database before installing the theme. I tried to copy the whole theme/default folder from the installation package to my server installation but nothing changed! What can I do other tha installing prestashop from the beginning?!! Where can I find a default backup of database to put everything the way it was before? thanks
vekia
you have to restore modules one by one, there is no other way. also their original positions
bellini13
what i have done is to install a temporary prestashop site (takes about 10 minutes). Then I use the theme installer module to export the default theme and save it to a zip file on my desktop. I them use that theme zip file to import into the store. This will restore the default theme back to the original settings
Sam_2015
what i have done is to install a temporary prestashop site (takes about 10 minutes). Then I use the theme installer module to export the default theme and save it to a zip file on my desktop. I them use that theme zip file to import into the store. This will restore the default theme back to the original settings I used the same method and it works like charm; installed PrestaShop (1.6.0.14) locally (can be done with WAMP, XAMPP, Uniform Server, etc.), exported the theme using the "Theme configurator" module and was then able to "restore" our store's default theme (default-bootstrap). All that's left to do is activate/deactivate modules and place them where we want (module transplant or Live Edit). Thanks!
wdburgdorf
It's a year and a half later now. Is there still no other way to restore a template, or to copy a template other than manually resetting all modules and positions? What I'd like to do is to copy the default bootstrap template and adjust it. But the copy looks totally different, perhaps just because of module settings, and when I switch back to the default, that one is messed up, too. The way I think it should work and how it works with all of the other CMS that I ever worked with, is that you can switch templates as much as you like, it will not affect any modules and all of the templates will always look the same as you left them when you return. If it does not work that way with Prestashop, I'd still be glad to have a confirmation, so I can stop trying ... Or perhaps there's an extension that can reliably backup/restore/copy templates? bellini13
You can export a theme from the back office Preferences > Theme page. So install a clean Prestashop store, make changes to the theme and modules as you need, and then export the theme. This export will include the module positions that you have configured. But if you are relying on extra modules that you have installed, then they will need to be included with your theme, and they are likely not exported. wdburgdorf
Thank you for the super quick reply. The store that I am working on is basically clean. Nothing installed, no modules changed. And if I export the default template from a completely new store and install that in the development store, it is already messed up. It may be related to this issue: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/460535-problem-with-the-menu-when-i-change-the-theme/?do=findComment&comment=2123530 I'm not much worried about extra modules at this point. All I really need now is a duplicate of the default template so I can start working on the CSS ...
