Browser cache not updating (customers browser)

Hello all.

 

I have a problem. I update my store about once a week or so, which is fine. I can see the changes on my computer with force compile and so forth, but the problem is that it doesn't always refresh for the customer. I checked on my friends laptop and with 3 browsers and they all show old versions of the site. I checked the Etags and they should be telling the customers browser that there is new content but this doesn't seem to be the case all the time.

 

One occasion this completely borked up was when I changed an image on the front page. After checking this on my friends browser, his image size changed, but not the image itself leaving a stretched version of the old picture.

 

Have I missed something? A simple option I should click?

Hi Karribu,

Have you regenerated htaccess in the Back Office and cleared the browser caches on your friend's computer?

Yeah I regenerated the htaccess after i seemed to have 2 :S the other one was only 3 lines of code, but with all that hacking stuff a few days ago I took all t eh precautions and regened a new ht.access.

see if no one else is having this problem, then I've done something wrong or the instillation messed up
