Not possible to display any post except new posts. Custom post filters don't work. Works somehow better w/o JavaScript but missing most functionality.. Thumbs down overall. Patric
Hi, Sorry for the inconvenience. :/ We updated the forum software today and encountered important problems with our existing PrestaShop theme. So we will have to make important modifications to make it compatible. This is the reason why we temporarily use the default theme. Thank you for your comprehension and patience. phrasespot
There are some invisible URLs throughout (e.g. Profile > User Tools > Display name history). It is due to the following rule in one of the style files .general_box a { color: #FFFFFF; ... } Also when writing a post "Post Options" take too much space beside the editor, could it be maybe made narrower? jhnstcks
Compared with the spam that has exploded all over us, this forum format is a dream. I can only stop the spam on the English forums everywhere else is down to their own moderators. When the bots are posting 50 spam messages in 30 minutes while I pop to tesco its getting harder and harder to try and stop them. Although at the moment they are still posting, only admin/moderators can see the posts.
phrasespot
When the bots are posting 50 spam messages in 30 minutes while I pop to tesco its getting harder and harder to try and stop them. Evil pests A couple of things come to mind to stop/slow down/discourage spammers: - A grace period/post count to create a new thread for new registrations. - A "this is spam" button for each post, where there is more than x vote, the post is removed from the view automatically - A registration form that changes every x number of registrations It seems like the spam posts increased since updating the forum, IDK. jhnstcks
On the old forum there was some kind of automatic spam detection software in place that stopped spam being posted, but since the forum was changed it seems that it isnt active on this forum. Carl Favre
Hi jhnstcks, phrasespot, There is some kind of automatic spam detection, but it is not working that great. We are looking for solutions to stop it or at least decrease it to a reasonable level. We have also noted the "invisible" link problem. About the "post options" gap, could you post a picture of your problem? Thanks. Carl
jhnstcks
Hi Carl, Theres one very good way of stop spambots....have a hidden field on the registration page that HAS to be left blank, as it is hidden human users will never fill it. But bots will see the field and fill it, and therefore the post won't be validated and will be regected. Its called a honeypot field. I seem to get the impression that you guys have a separate developing company doing the forum, if you do, they need a kick up the backside as the forum has been a mess for a month now. phrasespot
About the "post options" gap, could you post a picture of your problem? It is the space the "Post Options" take rather than a gap. If this section was below the editor or even made narrower, so a larger area for the editor is available.

I seem to get the impression that you guys have a separate developing company doing the forum, if you do, they need a kick up the backside as the forum has been a mess for a month now. I did that with a comment form on a site once. Caught 100% totally!!! Not very hard to implement, either. However, the spammers are getting smarter and can see that kind of technique and defeat it as well. I suggested that they use this for registrations: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=1795905 (screenshot: http://img.skitch.com/20091003-j4tnkremwx9pn13idhs4g5byk2.jpg)

Mike Kranzler
heh... while all other real spam is displayed prominently throughout the forums. some spam filter. Hi phrasespot, We actually have made some major changes to the spam filter over the last few weeks. Are you still seeing spam at a similar rate as previously? Because right now, we've noticed a major drop-off, and have started focusing on catching human spammers/link-builders. Please let me know, we're always interested in your input! -Mike
phrasespot
Weekends seems to be bad, possibly because all moderators have a life More concerning is the false positives, while many spam seem to pass the filters. Since it is very difficult to stop human generated spam, why not implement a "this is spam" button, say after 5-6 members mark it as spam, removing it from the circulation until a mod can look at it. That said, it is a minor annoyance. Better if the time is spent on 1.
Mike Kranzler
Agreed on all points. However, was this past weekend better than usual? The changes we've made should have made a difference over the past week or so. -Mike

jhnstcks
Mike a lot of the spam is happening on forums that don't have very active moderators i.e. chinese, japanese and I think Sweden. On the old forum I was able to delete posts from the forum page even though I had no moderator privileges. The spam Phrasespot posted above is in one of these forums. Also when spammers post in these forums there is nothing I can do to stop them as I can't ban members unless they post on the English forums. As I have mentioned before Moderators should be able to ban members from their profile page, and not only from the message page.
Mike Kranzler
Hi John, Thanks for passing that on. Could you link me to a few posts in those languages? I'll be sure to bring it up to our devs who created these new spam filters to see what we can do in this situation. Unfortunately, I have no input on the ban abilities of moderators, although I think our team may be a little wary of giving non-PrestaShop employees that power (we've had issues with mods in the past, and that could add fuel to the flames if not monitored properly). -Mike
jhnstcks
MIke the spam posts have gone now, as they have been deleted when the member was banned. The messages weren't in a foreign language, they were in English, just in that forum. I already have the ability to ban members, but only ones that post in the English forum.
Mike Kranzler
I see. I'll be sure to pass this along to our forum devs, but in the meantime please feel free to message me directly about anyone in the non-English forums who need banning, and I'll be sure to take care of it for you. -Mike
