bargain-box
I just reinstalled the latest version of prestashop and when I ask to log into back office a box appears telling me for security purposes I can't log in until I delete the install folder (but where is it?) and renamed the admin folder (rename it to what?) Help, I'm about to throw prestashop through the window but I have an early version running fine and making money.
peepo
Hello, when you uploaded all the prestashop files to your server, one of the folders was called 'install'. You must delete that. Then also there is a folder called 'admin' you must rename this to something random like 'admin267'. Then when you want to go into admin panel you use the new foldername www.yourshopurl/admin267 and this will now take you to your admin panel Hope this helps
Mike Kranzler
Hi bargain-box, You should be able to find those files very easily in your ftp server, whether its FileZilla or something similar. And so you know the reasoning behind that message, it creates an extra layer of security for you. This way, you're actually creating your own login panel URL instead of sharing one with thousands of other PrestaShop users. -Mike
sharky980
Thank god I stumbled on this, Peepo you helped me more than you can image, I was a having a nightmare trying to sort this, all Prestashop says is to delete install folder so obviously I deleted the install folder from my downloads, it should say delete the folder named install in your FTP that would be soooo much easier for people to understand...

So it is a service. YOu need host name, login, and password to connect to your FTP. After login you can mange files (remove, rename, copy, etc.) maybe on your hosting account you've got some files manager?
AnneDenmark
Hello, I have a similar problem, except I am aware of where I can find my install folder. I just really can't delete it! In FileZilla, there is a place in the "right click" menu that says "delete", but when i click on it and wait. Something happens, but it is still there - empty however. Also through my web hosting, I can acces my www root, but I cannot throw the install folder in the bin on my mac. It says that the folder can't be deleted. Can you help me? bellini13
If the folder or any files in the folder are in use, then you would not be able to delete it. In the meantime, you can try to rename the folder to something like "install.old", but I suspect it would not work either You should contact your hosting support and tell them you are trying to delete this folder and ask them to assist you.
doogaloo13
Hello, I am having a similar issue logging into the back office. I deleted the install folder via Filezilla and renamed my admin folder to admin187. However, i still get the "delete install folder message" and when i go to ../admin187, i get a 404 error. Can someone please help? Ive added screenshots for your review.
