What can be done with the multistore function?

I am interested in the 1.5 mainly because the multistore feature. But since my install of alpha didn't work well and I couldn't find more detailed info about I'd like to know if we will be able to do with this new feature:

 

a) Have one code base and multiple stores (one code to update/patch)

Have the ability to create a user that can manage only one store (create products, pages, categories, manage orders, prices, configure payment methods, delivery taxes)

c) The stores can have separate products, inventory, categories, themes, emails, payment methods, prices, delivery taxes

d) the customer user base to be unified (if the customer register himself in one store he can make purchases to the others without having to re-register)
