links in information block

I do not have a 'bricks and mortar' store, so I have disabled the Stores Block and deleted 'Our stores' cms links from the footer and information block, but alas, they remain. I'm using ps 1.4.3

 

I have even deleted stores.php from my server, but the link remains and now I (naturally) get a 404.

 

I have checked the id_cms table on my server and the stores category (1) is disabled there.

 

I have also emptied my browser caches as well as the Smarty compile and cache directories on the server - all to no effect.

 

Can anyone help?
