damian5000
I'm a little nervous about putting too much energy into this version. The theme developers know 1.5 is right around the corner, so not sure how much specifically for 1.4.4 will come out...and it seems even themes from 1.4.3 are having issues integrating with 1.4.4 ... I don't care much for more core features, but do care about stability, bug fixes, security patches, ability to enhance the store with modules that may come out etc... So I'd like to continue to upgrade...But with backwards compatibility issues, I don't know how viable that will be if I put tons of effort into a version. Anyways, back to the original question...Wait for 1.5, or shoot away with 1.4.4.... Really wish this weren't an issue...That PS had WP type update ability for modules/themes etc... tomerg3
There is no way to automatically update 3rd party modules or themes. The main reason is that each developer uses their own code styling, and many theme developers modify parts of the theme that should really remain the same. PS 1.4.4 has a built in Update button, but all that does is download and extract the latest version for you (with an option to roll it back). PS 1.4 is quite stable now, and if that is your main concern, I would definitely go with 1.4. 1.5 will likely be released towards the end of the year, and as much as the PS team will try, there are likely going to be some bugs in the first couple of months. Unless you must have the ability to manage multiple shops, I would stick with 1.

I'm not trying to create an argument. Interested in knowing. PS 1.4 is quite stable now, and if that is your main concern, I would definitely go with 1.4. My main concern is security ...Often with upgrades come patches for holes. and customization with new modules or themes that come out...as versions increase, developers will likely develop for the newest version out... Seeing Presta isn't like WP regarding upgrades, this makes it likely 1.4.4 won't be compatible with anything developed for 1.5+. 1.5 will likely be released towards the end of the year, and as much as the PS team will try, there are likely going to be some bugs in the first couple of months. Thought release was aimed for in Sept...? Not the case anymore?
tomerg3
I don't know too much about how WP is used, but I have seem many themes for PS that make big changes in how the page looks and works (changing key id="xxx") which Prestashop expects to be there (by default), there is no way to update any 3rd party themes, because they don't use standard code. Also, when new infrastructure is released, modules (and themes) should be modified to start using this new infrastructure, there is no way to know how 3rd party modules are written and modify their code. I would not worry too much about upgrading, first off, build your start and get it working, if it does everything you need, there is no reason to upgrade (if it's not broken, don't fix it).... I don't know where you've heard September, but we are a week into August, and there is not even an alpha version available on the site for download.
