index.php in all theme folders

I'm currently designing a theme and I have a question about why there is a index.php file placed in all folders in the default theme? Whats the purpose of all these index.php files?

an empty index.php is in most cases for the purpose to prevent access to the folder. If somebody calls the link to the directory they will see a white screen. If there was no index.php they could see a list of the files included in the folder.

So is this something that I need to include in my theme or is it just enough to set up the right file and folder premissions?

Is there a solution to have this index.php file automatically inserted in every folder (really all of them) inside my prestashop installation?

For existing, but also for future folders.
