After a look in Googleuuh, it was not easy to find a

'how to' for Smarty in Notepad++.

Here is an answer, 'coz I *think* it *might* help some dummy loosers like I am... Hum, I mean some poor lonesome webmasters.

in order to highlight SMARTY code in Notepad++, you have to use a xml dedicated file, called 'userDefineLang.xml'.

- If it exist, it is in the Notepad++ folder. (you will have to append the xml for smarty to the file)

- If it doesn't exist, just rename the xml smarty file from userDefineLang_smarty.xml to userDefineLang.xml

:blink:NOTE : by default (installation from scratch), the 'userDefineLang.xml' file does NOT exist. Just copy the userDefineLang_smarty.xml in the Notepadfolder and rename it to userDefineLang.xml ! easy !!

:blink:NOTE2 : Vista & Win7 users : Watch out ! Notepad is not very compliant with the %APPDATA% folders, du to the 'accessing and writing protection' used in Vista / Win7.

So,

- Do NOT install by default Notepad++,

- use an OTHER folder than the 'application folder', and

- install it "as a stand alone application" (it's asked in the process on installation). ...If you NOT do so, you'll NOT be able to overwrite / create the userDefineLang.xml file, and Notepad++ will not work well. (I tested  and reinstalled !)

 NOTEPAD++ (new) home site :

http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

 the USER LANG WIKI home page :

http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/notepad-plus/index.php?title=User_Defined_Language_Files

:unsure::unsure:The userDefineLang.xml source's for smarty, called userDefineLang_smarty.xml :

http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/userDefinedLang/userDefineLang_smarty.xml (just download it and rename !! ;) )

Enjoy !

Doesn't work : I pasted the userDefineLang_smarty.xml in C:\Program Files\Notepad++ and renamed it to userDefineLang.xml. No way to find smarty in the language selector. I'm under Windows XP, latest Notepad++ version.

That's not the first time I try to do it...

yes, you've got right Benjamin. I checked it and it works fine, now i can see beautifull smarty code ;-)

regards

I have use netbeans current version 7.3 which helps you to view smarty tag highlight and also you are able to got smarty function if you press ctrl+space . it will show all the smarty function.

But notepad + plus is light weight and good. If smarty function intelligence add it will be awesome I have use notepad++ from lots of days :)
