Classes as well as publications

We are currently running a Magento store. However, I'm trying to convince the uppers here to convert to PS.

We have a requirement to store classes in the store. We also offer publications and currently use a voucher system for handling of the classes. This makes a whole lot of the processing very cumbersome and I would like to know how to store classes in a PS store.

We would need:

Class Title

Start date

End date

Price

Link to Agenda

This is important...We would also require the capability for one person to register other people for these classes. We do this now but it is fairly buggy and is dependent upon some custom code that we had written.

Thanks and I await your comments.

Hi MrBaseball,

Sorry it has taken us so long to respond. While I do not know off the top of my head which modules these clients are using, we do have a few clients who are using their PrestaShop websites in similar capacities.

Check them out here:

http://www.villatropic.fr/product.php?id_product=38&back_searc=1&tableid=16-38-15-18-37-11-10

So it is possible, and I am going to follow up with our developers tomorrow to find out more about how this can be implemented for your purposes.

Unlike those sites, we won't be showing the products using any of the Prestashop product views.

We will only be creating a cart item when they select add to cart for books or register for courses and using the cart for checkout. We would like to use the OnePage Checkout module by Peter Sliacky (http://www.canin.sk/prestashop/presta-modules/17-one-page-checkout.html)

We will also need to allow users to register other people for course and collect certain information about others, Is that something that would have to be programmed in or does it have that capability already? We would want each registration to be a separate line item in the cart. Our current Magento solution puts all "register for others" on one line in the cart using a voucher method and makes the whole thing kind of stupid.

We also collect other info for purchasers but that can be a new step in the OPC that we will need to write.

My only other concern is cross-selling and up-selling. We have needs for this but not sure how PS handles these.

The real big thorn is the capability to register other people for each course. Primarily, I'd like each user registered to be a single line item in the cart, our current Magento solution groups all register others as one line item together, which has been problematic to say the least. We will need to record info on each registrant when a class is added to the cart, as well.

Hi MrBaseball,

In short, yes, you can handle just about all of this using PrestaShop. Hopefully this will be a good, simple rundown that you can use for your proposal, based on my discussions with developers:

In terms of creating classes, you can do that using Combinations in the Back Office. Just as you can use them to customize a computer or a t-shirt, you can also use them to set up sessions, class titles and time slots.

In order to link to an agenda, you'll need an external module, but you shouldn't really have too much difficulty finding one.

You can also easily register others using the quantity option when adding to cart and by including additional text fields under Customization for that class. Each registered person will appear on a different line in the cart. However, you will not be able to collect any information not submitted by the person registering on your site.

As for the cart, we now offer One Page Checkout for free, so you might want to look into that instead.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if this answers your questions.
