reprapperMC
Hello, I'm currently building a store and am wanting to make some changes to the featured product module layout. I've found the .tpl that needs to be edited. However, in all .tpl files it lists a warning to not edit the file if I want to update the store. Is there a way for the store to still be updated after editing these files?
phrasespot
It would still be possible to update, only that during an update you modification will be reverted. If you don't have a lot of changes this may not be a big issue. You will just need to remember what you changed and re-apply the changes after an update. If you have a lot of changes and depending on what the change is, there may be better ways to handle the modification. Sadly, PS does not make it easy to make tpl modifications. reprapperMC
Phrasepot, I found a way to do this and update, well at least for now. You can create a "modules" folder in you theme folder. You can then copy the folder of the module you want to edit from the www/modules directory to your new urtheme/module directory. The .tpl files in the urtheme/module/urmodule can be edited and will override the .tpl files in the www/modules/urmodule.
Chilly
Brilliant, reprapperMC! I have another question about this. I'm using a free theme that is compatible with version 1.4.3. What happens when I update? Will that theme still work in later versions, or do you need to update your theme when updating the version of prestashop? tomerg3
many times there are changes to the default theme (bug fixes or improvements), it is recommended to follow those and apply them to your theme. There is a theme validator on the PS site that can tell if your theme will work with a give PS version (can't remember the link off the top of my head, but a google search should find it)
