What exactly is 'Paypal Express Payment'

I have trolled the forum and cannot find a straight answer to this:

- I have the "PayPal Express : payment in 2 clicks with PayPal account directly from cart page" option ticked in the paypal module and all the settings are as per the wikki (I am on 1.4.2.5 and paypal module version 2.4)

- I have one page checkout enabled (but guest checkout is NOT enabled)

- what should a customer expect to see when they click on the 'Checkout with Paypal' logo that displays just below the cart summary?

I kinda expected the customer to be taken to paypal, enter their details etc and when they return back to my site - the order confirmation page would be displayed. Instead, all that happens is that they are returned back to the checkout screen with their address details populated and then have to then go to the bottom of the screen, select a payment method and go off to paypal again.

I would also appreciate some help here. My express button never even shows up on cart page. (I have 1.4.4, one page and guest check out are enabled and I use paypal web standard payment). It makes no difference if "express" is ticked under paypal 2.6 module configuration - the button never appears.

It also does not matter whether I ma logged in or not.... still no paypal express button.

Any thoughts?

Paypal's "website payment standard"? As I research, Express checkout function only from Paypal's "Website payment pro". Because at the moment, I'm doing research that Paypal 2.6 module can match which one "standard" or "pro". From yours, may I know the "standard" is also working with Paypal 2.6 module except the "express checkout/button" right?

I am in full agreement, the PayPal Express option works nothing like it is described by PayPal. Is there a bug in here, my checkout flow with it goes as follows...

Sandbox Mode

Shopping Cart (Click PayPal Express Button) -> Paypal Login (no products show in order summary) -> Review Your Information (still no products showing, click continue) -> back to my site in address step of checkout. If you try anc go through the PP Express Checkout again, same thing but it drops you on to the page that says that this email is already registered and please log in (where no password exists). This bring up several other problems with future visits, but lets stay on track here.

It seems as if the module is not communicating product info to PayPal and maybe PayPal is sending the user right back.

Checking out the logs now, but if anyone has solved this already please give a shout.

Looks like another incomplete module on Prestashop. I have had to disable so many modules because they dont work properly I am starting to lose faith in the whole prestashop model. My current list of not working modules are:

- Paypal Express Checkout

- Shipping Estimator

- Guest Checkout

After reading around and looking into this for a while, I found out that this is actually what this module is SUPPOSED to do! Pretty unbelievable tbh, it is confusing for a customer to be sent to paypal and then get sent back to Prestashop with nothing but a filled in address (after paypal tells them they will 'confirm the payment on the next screen')!? Then they have to go back to paypal all over again to complete the transaction.. Its more like a quick way to grab the address.. nothing more.

There is a module that offers true paypal express checkout here. It costs $88 + tax though.. still I will likely purchase it as it seems to do exactly what I need! Would have been awesome if it came built into Prestashop (or something similar) but hey, not all things in life are free.. ;)

2016 and I am seeing this issue in Prestashop version 1.6.1. The Paypal module that comes free (Paypal USA, Canada) is not very express. It seems as it it doesn't calculate shipping option before going to paypal. In Zen cart the express is express 2 clicks and done. It automatically take the lowest shipping cost. Must have to pay for this funcionality.

The best I can do with the free Paypal option is enable quick order and one page checkout, enable just standard Paypal. This option isn't too bad but its stil not that Express and we all know about cart abandonment. The 5 page checkout with express is ridiculous you have to go through Paypal button twice as stated.

If you enable the standard and express both buttons show, or just the express and the button shows up close to the cart and on the bottom of the one page checkout and you can get stuck in the top paypal button loop. Meaning its easy to click the top button because its closest but that button just keep going back to paypal to re-populate. When you come out of Paypal you have to ingore that top button and go to bottom of page to hit the other button to complete checkout. Crazy!

In examing further the one-page checkout (Preferences> Orders> Order Process Type: One page checkout) with guest checkout enabled (right below the first setting), plus Paypal Standard puts the entire checkout page under the cart its pretty express. Your customers do have to populate form fields instead of Paypal doing it for them, but it seems like most carts I see are like this now.
