FireHawk
I too am having this same problem. I am running PS 1.4.3 after an upgrade from 1.3.6 Paypal module is 2.4 as loaded from the upgrade. I am losing lots of sales due to this so can someone help me asap?
FireHawk
Just a quick update... I updated the Paypal module to 2.6 and tried making a payment for an order using another paypal account and payment went through fine. I contacted a customer who's payment failed previously asking them to try again and they did and the payment came through fine too. Not sure if this is a fluke or whether the paypal 2.6 module has solved it now. I've had other customers who's payment failed first time and passed ok on a second attempt so i will wait to see what happens with a new customer and report back. Fabien Serny
Hi steve, Could you reproduce the problem yourself ? If yes, could you tell me what was in your cart and what was the price of each product and the total amount ? You can provide me a screenshot. It will help me to reproduce the bug and try to fix it (if there is one). Best regards,
Sauls
I also have the same problem some of the payments go through others give the same error code PayPal response: TIMESTAMP -> 2011-08-16T11:05:42Z L_ERRORCODE0 -> 10417 L_SHORTMESSAGE0 -> Transaction cannot complete. L_LONGMESSAGE0 -> The transaction cannot complete successfully. Instruct the customer to use an alternative payment method. L_SEVERITYCODE0 -> Error I would be very grateful for a solution. If yes, could you send me by private message your backoffice, ftp and phpMyAdmin access ? Thanks for your fast reply. No most of the times the paypal module works. Fabien Serny
Hi, I send an e-mail to PayPal and they answer me this : The Error 10417 is generally generated when a user use more than one credit cart in his PayPal account. If one of the card is not valid, PayPal return 10417 error. But if you reinit the paiement, it will search an another paiement method (or another card), and the paiement will pass. This error is coming from PayPal, the only way to solve this is to reinit the paiement. You can't do anything for you, you should contact PayPal directly if you want more informations on this issue. steve_c
Hi I just received the error again. So if I'm getting this correct the problem is this: The buyer has more than one credit / debit card on his account. One of the cards is invalid or expired and therefore an error is returned. Is that correct? If so - is there any way to catch this error on the shop and inform the customer? I am definitely losing orders through this problem. Thanks, Stephen. steve_c
And again That's three times today alone. I've also had some successful PayPal payments so it must be this error that PayPal have outlined.
Fabien Serny
I will see if I can add something in the module that I can catch the error. But you should really ask PayPal, it's not normal that you have this error three times a day. Maybe there is something wrong with your paypal account. Please keep me informed of what they say. If you can't join them, please tell me, I will join them for you. Best regards,

Noni
I received the 10417 error so after reading this thread I removed the PayPal API username, password and signature. A customer has just placed an order and paid successfully with Paypal, but no Order has been created in the backoffice. How can it be that a cart was created, details of this along with payment has been received on my paypal account, but no order created? Is this because I removed the API details?? november
I've just started getting this error message. Lost one customer a couple of weeks ago when I thought it was a one off and another one this evening (which strangely enough followed a succesful transaction earlier today). I've read the thread but am not sure if I'm supposed to update something, remove API or if there is nothing I can do other than contact PayPal. Any help much appreciated! A client has encountered a problem with the module PayPalAPI, see the report: PayPal response: TIMESTAMP -> 2012-05-08T19:11:40Z L_ERRORCODE0 -> 10417 L_SHORTMESSAGE0 -> Transaction cannot complete. Austra02
This error occurs whenever PayPal cannot process a payment - even in the case where insufficient funds are in their credit card. My question is: surely this error can be captured by the PayPal module (PayPal does return the error code to PrestaShop - and I'm assuming the module), and then display it 'nicely' on the cart page instead of the horrible error that is currently returned (see attached)?? This is done in other eCommerce cart's PayPal integrations automatically - with pre-configured error messages to let the user know there is an error with the card they are trying to use. Alternatively, is there a way that I can code something to capture this error and display a nice, clean error report instructing the user that there was a problem with their card and to try another card? Thanks, Scott

Mister Denial
After so much time this error has been around, the only fix still seems to be not to use the API - but how do you set that up in the module?

Gomlers
I am also seeing some of these errors from Paypal. From my 1.6.0.9 backoffice: PayPal response:TIMESTAMP -> 2015-05-05T22:32:06ZL_ERRORCODE0 -> 10417L_SHORTMESSAGE0 -> Transaction cannot complete.L_LONGMESSAGE0 -> Instruct the customer to retry the transaction using an alternative payment method from the customers PayPal wallet. The transaction did not complete with the customers selected payment method.L_SEVERITYCODE0 -> Error This is at least the 10th customer this year. The payment looks OK on Paypal, but when they come back to the shop for their confirmation - they meet an error message saying "Paypal Error", and nothing more. And to make everything even worse, their carts are emptied. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THIS!?

Gomlers
Well - I've searched around for this topic - and I can't find this problem on ANY of the other open source carts out there.. opencart, magento, zen cart, tomato, x-cart and so on. This must mean it only happens on prestashop-shops if you ask me.. Why is that? There should be absolutely NO problems, once a customer has decided to actually make a purchase! This is a really bad error to get on 1 out of every 20 orders on a webshop. How can I fix it? Possible to drop using API and instead use IPN? Fabien Serny
And if you look closely to the answer of this topic (about Magento) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14039351/paypal-gateway-error, it says : (#10417: Transaction cannot complete).According to the documentation this simply means that the customer does not have enough funds on their account (or has no credit card linked) to pay for the item, as stated: Account not associated with a usable funding source.orCredit card or Billing Agreement is required to complete payment. So I'm pretty sure, this is coming from Paypal
