Update Problem with Database

Hi

I am trying to update from Version 1.3.6.0 to 1.4.3
I am using the step by step guide but come stuck at the part where we try to update on the local system to make sure its working fine before updateing on the server

i get the following error when going to http://127.0.0.1/teststore/
and when i got to http://127.0.0.1/teststore/install
it gets stuck at
Error!
One or more errors have occurred, you can find more informations below or in the log/installation.log file.

Database server was not found. Please verify the login, password, and database server name fields.


The log/installation.log file reads "*ERROR* 2011/07/13 - 16:17:34: Invalid database configuration."

I have done everything excatly word by word on the video guide, same database name, changed the address to /teststore
copied over the original settings file from config
