need help changing categories on site with custom theme

ive been editing a theme but cant figure how to change the categories on the homepage the contain

IPODS
ACCESSORIES
LAPTOPS

Im a little frustrated. Im also newb to the prestashop suite.

You add or remove categories in the CATALOG tab

To delete the existing ones simply click the bin icon on the right handside of the category.
To add a category, click on 'Add a new subcategory' button
