Categories and subcategories css help!

Hi everyone I really need someones help!
Im not really good at css and am wondering if some very kind person could help me?

All I want to do is change the subcategories from the grid layout in cat1.jpg to a listed format in cat2.jpg

so from |-----| |-----| |-----|

|-----| |-----| |-----|

to this

|---------------------------------|

Like I said I really dont have an idea on what to change and where to change it so be kind to me
