stopping visitors accessing certain catagories

Hi

I have certain catagories I would I do not want customers to access/buy from for the time being. How can I disable them?

As there are already links on google they can still be accessed via google - do I have to disable every product (tedious) or can I do it by catagory some how?

You could create a new customer group and make the categories only accessible to that group and remove access for the default group.

Have had a look at setting up customer group but cannot see how to link them to catagories to stop them being accessed.

Any futher thoughts?
