Which costs do I face with prestaShop

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am considering using prestashop. Now I am not sure which costs might come across.

Open Source is for free - ok. But I also see there are lots of moduls to be paid for.

Maybe some shopowner that are already running prestashop can answer this question:

Are there moduls that are urgently needed? EG. Google Analytics Integration is a cost module. With my current system I integrated Google Analytics for free. This is probably not possible is it? Any other features needed?

Thanks Sabine.

If you know some programming skillset, it is easy for you to embedded the source code for Google Analytic.

Most of the payment gateway like Paypal, Google Checkout has been integrated into Prestashop. These are shipped with Prestashop and are free of course.

For most people, Prestashop with all the default modules is more than enough. It really depends on your needs.

I suggest you try installing Prestashop on your local disk and assess it before deciding which to use.

I am a merchant trying to set up prestashop - I have purchased 2 modules so far cost about $40 the prestashop manual $40. I am about to invest in a bespoke shipping module (for drop shipping - circa $500) My biggest cost has been time learning Prestashop - 100's of hours. However, I would suggest if cost is an issue you should not really be considering any web activity. You are investing for future income and I cannot imagine not getting a worthwhile return using prestashop as a basis despite some of its weaknmesses.

Just imagine...that you would be in the 90's and you would have no alternatives. What would be your budget? :)

Those days (thanks to this wonderful peoples behind prestashop and the other OS scripts) you do have alternatives. You can have an ecommerce website up and running in no time.

To respond straight forward to your question, your budget could be 0. With the help of this forum you can learn & test prestashop in about a week and using some free themes you can customize it. There is already a free google analytics module within admin area...and many others. If you have a new shop you don't have to buy modules, just test it, see the customers behaviors and then, if is anything missing on prestashop you should considering buying a module...

If you are starting off, the cost (in hard cash) is probably zero. I have had an online store for about 3 years using another Open Source eCommerce script on which tons of free modules are available.

However, I am seriously considering moving to PrestaShop. In the last 3 years, my needs have grown and have become much more sophisticated and demanding. And checking out PrestaShop I have found that the base version fulfills a lot of those needs. I can't imagine a new shop needing to buy modules.

Yes, modules are expensive on Prestashop compared to other scripts. However, on the balance, I think it is probably still a good deal.
