Paypal, what is this sandbox stuff?

Recommended Posts

I've configured my client's paypal cms, I'm using XAMPP to test locally the prestashop, set up all the items and design.

I created a fake user to test the checkout, and when I click at the bottom, use PAYPAL (looks hideous btw), it directs me to some stupid sandbox site that I have no login for. As a customer what am I supposed to see/do at this point?

Also, I really need to clean up the checkout page, make it look more secure, I have 1 page checkout enabled, and allow guests to checkout because it improves turnover rate significantly.

Can anybody help me edit this? Everything seems to be in french, and I can't get a clue from other websites because I can't make it to their checkout sections, all being in french!

Er also, what are some other trusted American payment gateways I should add? Just having paypal I don't think cuts it. And the available modules are all foreign as hell to me with weird pricing, Euro symbol 434,00, like what's with the commas? :/

Hello there
sandbox is also known as "testing environment".
for testing purpose, you can sign up an testing account (sandbox) accounts.
It is a little confusing to use sandbox account if you don't know of it.
check my blog here for a basic information on how to use Paypal sanbox

of course you can also use your real paypal account to do test. but you will need to cancel the transactions otherwise, you will be charged transactions fee by Paypal.

so it’s automatically sandboxing because it’s localhost?

No, it has nothing to do with what environment you are running.
It is configurable at the module configuration screen. There is radio button for you choose run it at sanbox or production.

I should probably ask this, are taxes applied automatically when enabled?

Yes, if you want use this functionality of paypal, you can do this.
But I suggest you use the tax functionality of PrestaShop instead of Payal.
Otherwise, there will be payment error at your orders because of amount mismatch.

Thank you, I really appreciate the information. I set all the tax rates for everything to FL7% via prestashop, I hope that isn't a problem.

I can't seem to find any payment gateways, where are the modules? Are they pay only or something? What are the standard payment gateways for shopping online? All I can think of is paypal, for the US, I'm not sure what would I have to do to add credit card functionality?

Thank you for your replies, I hope I don't sound to demanding, just trying to look for some help quickly, lol.

try to click 'reset" button at Modules page if you can not find module.

I think Paypal is very popular payment method. I also own a module Agile Paypal Express Checkout module. Which has many features that regular does not have. You check it here for more detailed information.

Paypal also support major credit card payment that does not requires customer to register.
You have another option to use Authorize.NET which is credit card payment gateway. There is a standard module comes with PrestaShop. I am developing a Authorize.NET Express Checkout module which is similar with my Agile Paypal Express Checkour. It will be release before this weekend.
