Gfinfo web
Hi everyone, I'm working on upgrading a PrestaShop site from version 1.6 to 1.7. I'm a bit unsure about the best approach. I've researched upgrade methods, but I'm looking for advice from those who have experience with this. Is a direct upgrade feasible and reliable? Or would it be safer to start with a clean 1.7 installation and use a data migration module? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Nickz
go from 1.6.1..1.1 or which you are on to the next 1.6.1..1.2 till you reach the one you wish. 1.6 is still the most popular version.

I can suggest to make a clean installation. Migrate the data. Instead of 1.7, do the 8.2 version.
Knowband Plugins
Direct Upgrade using 1-Click Upgrade module This is faster but can be risky, especially if you have custom themes or third-party modules that might not be compatible. It's worth testing on a staging environment first, and you might still need to manually fix some broken elements afterward. Clean 1.7 Install + Data Migration Module: Safer, especially for heavily customized stores. You install PrestaShop 1.7 fresh, then use a migration module (like "MigrationPro" etc) to transfer products, customers, orders, etc. This avoids theme/module compatibility issues but requires reconfiguring modules and the theme.
