Setting a different welcome page (.htaccess, or other ways)

Is it possible for Prestashop 8 to redirect people right away to a category page (or any page) rather than showing the contents of the ./index.php page when someone types in just the shops domain name (ex. www.myshop.com)?

Anything is possible, but what exactly is it for? Perhaps there's a simpler solution to your need.

I would like the guest visitor to be taken directly to a different page when the visitor types in just the domain name. 

So, when he types www.website.com, www.website.com/category will show up right away not www.website.com

The easiest thing to do then is to install your PrestaShop store in a subdirectory and put whatever you want in the root of your hosting so that it is displayed first on the domain name and link to the home page of your PrestaShop installation.

What is the more difficult way? I would like to keep the setup as is but have the htaccess file modified. I'm experimenting with that file now, but nothing seems to work.

Ah also another method, you use an index.html file at the root so that it is displayed first, to validate with your host that it will be processed first.
