How to sort product in parent category

Hey guys,

I have a shop where we sell stuff for men, women and children (top categories).

All my products are listed in subcategories, like men>accessories, men>shoes, etc.

When I display my products on the front, it displays everything from the men subcategories (as I have nothing in the men parent category).

My problem is that I can't find how I sort my products inside this parent category. All my products are already sorted inside each subcategory, but the order in the main category does not make sense.

Any idea?
