Upgrade from 1.7 using 1-Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I am running into an issue with my Presta shop.  When PHP is upgraded, it breaks the website.  I have been told that the website and back end servers haven't been touched since 2015 except to add/modify products.  It's currently our archive website where the sales team looks up previous orders.  Can I use the 1-click upgrade module to update to the latest version of Presta Shop?

As a note, I have no experience with Presta Shop, but I do with servers and web development, but the website has been backed up.

Thank you for your time.

one click upgrade does work but it might take a couple tries so you  should make a back up copy of files and db before doing.  also if very old version you  may have to perform  more than one upgrade, to 1.7 then to 8.1.....one click upgrade can be tricky for first time users...

an easier way, assuming you only need informations from admin is to install latest ps into a new subdomain or other space then buy a migration module that brings over know PS catalog/customer/shop datas, I say known because some shops may have additional data from 3rd party modules.  here is link https://addons.prestashop.com/en/search?search_query=migrate

the simplest?  maintain old php version for archived copy, assuming your hosting allows old versions of php and upgrade php support other domains...we do this using plesk but your hosting may differ

good luck!  let us know what you end up doing

I'm unable to upgrade some of the other applications due to depreciation.  They are telling me I need to upgrade to Alma 8 (From CentOS 7) with PHP 7.2 and then buy Imunify 360 Plus in order to have PHP 5.6 which is compatible with 1.7. Those changes would almost double my monthly cost for the dedicated server, which I do not want. Using Liquid Web with WHM and cPanel.

Hoping to update Presta with no breaking of the site, then upgrade PHP and other applications.

The goal is to use the latest WordPress for a new domain.

I appreciate your time.

Found out that I'm on 1.6.1.2 and it's failing to update with 1-Click Upgrade.

yes, one click is not as easy as it sounds, sometimes its 50 clicks....you should step it, upgrade to last stable of 1.6, then again for last stable 1.7, and  so on.....

as mentioned, migrating data to new ps install is simpler for most people

doubling hosting, I don't know what that means monetarily, but skimping on hosting costs is IMHO silly...it's the most important bit...I am very familiar with liquid web, did you talk to them about a solution, they are generally very helpful...cpanel sucks...and whm?  who does that?  jaajajajaja  in future move to plesk...
