[Very Important] New EU ruling affecting all online sellers. How will Prestashop implement this data?

Recommended Posts

From Dec 13th all online sellers must comply with this EU rule regarding General Product Safety Regulation

https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=uriserv%3AOJ.L_.2023.135.01.0001.01.ENG&toc=OJ%3AL%3A2023%3A135%3ATOC

Here's a breakdown of what needs to be shown on your product pages:

1. Product Identification Information

Manufacturer’s Details: Name and contact information of the manufacturer (or the importer if the product is from outside the EU).

Product Description: Clear and accurate description of the product, including any specific identifying marks like model or batch numbers.

Origin Information: Country of origin should be specified where applicable.

2. Safety Information and Warnings

Hazard Warnings: Any known hazards or safety risks related to the use of the product must be prominently displayed, especially if they are intended for vulnerable groups (children, elderly, etc.).

Usage Instructions: Provide comprehensive usage guidelines that allow consumers to use the product safely and prevent misuse.

Recall Notices and History: If the product has been subject to recalls or safety alerts in the past, this information must be visible. You also need to give customers clear instructions on what to do in case a product they purchased is recalled

3. Traceability Information

Tracking and Serial Numbers: The ability to track product batches, serial numbers, or lot numbers should be available for consumers, helping them understand where and how the product was manufactured and to support any potential recall procedures.

4. Conformity and Certification

CE Marking (if applicable): Products that are subject to specific safety regulations should show that they meet EU safety standards, often indicated by CE marking (if required by law).

Certification Details: For safety-critical products, such as electronics or toys, list any relevant conformity certificates, such as those from third-party testing bodies.

5. Contact for Safety Queries

Provide a clear mechanism for consumers to report safety issues or ask for more information regarding the product. This could be a dedicated email or support section clearly visible on the product page

6. Accident Reporting and Communication

You must provide detailed information on how consumers can report accidents or issues directly linked to the use of the product. This supports the EU’s Safety Gate (RAPEX) system, which requires quick reporting and handling of unsafe products

Implementing all would be a significant change to the prestashop system as it would need to be able to track batch numbers, which seems a tall order.

But the basics would be to have the Supplier data listed on the product page (which should be relatively easy)

But also the user guides, safety instructions and even recall instructions..

Hi, don't panic you have enough time 😉. And most of obligations concern some products not all. Most informations can be published in description,  attached document and in manufacturer

But in any case you have to enter data for each product. What do you expect?

Most information is manufacturer based so a more high level solution (for instance part of the additional information tab)
