Module Distribution Documentation

Hi everyone! (hope this makes it through moderator approval lol)

I've been looking around the project' devdocs in search of something detailing the module distribution process, but I did not manage to find anything about

•  the structure of the compressed files (should there be a parent folder or not?): Code says there should, if I am reading this right.
• supported file types (tar.gz? zip?): Sure, a case could be made seeing that this already can be found in the userdocs, but I think a small blorp somewhere in the devdocs might still prove to be useful.

Did I miss a page somewhere in the docs?
