One Click Upgrade Backup Database Very Slow

Im currently upgrading PS (1.7.8.9 - 1.7.8.11) and its currently backing up the database and taking a very long time.

I checked the database and ther Guest and connections tables are very large 2,000,000+ each. What is this and can I empty those tables safely?

Thanks, I'll check that out. The question that comes to mind is, can it be done whilst the backup is still running?

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. Ive removed everything except for some index.php and fileType files from the img/tmp folder.
