How to tweak Matrice 1.4 theme

Hi

I love the Matrice theme but hope to be able to customize it to my liking. I tried contacting Kamal once but there wasn't any response from him, I hope somebody is able to help me out on this:

My homepage could show 64 items at one go but in each individual category the default items shown is only 10. How can I change it to 64?

There is a small drop-down box at the bottom which allows the user to select the number of items viewed on each page, how do I move it to the top?
