image in top right corner - THEMES/header.tpl

Hello,

I am using a slightly altered version of the default prestashop template with the latest prestashop version. I would like to be able to load an image in the top right corner where by default the search bar is located. I have turned off search bar and other options so that the top right space is empty. However, I am not able to load any image there.

I have looked into themes/prestashop/header.tpl and hard coded an image reference in there but no joy. I even tried to write a couple of letters to see if they get displayed but no - they are not visible. When I check website sources, I see that nothing is loaded in header_right section.

although in header.tpl I now have:

abc {$HOOK_TOP}

I'd greatly appreciate your advice how to load an image in there. I do not mind hardcoding it if needed. I am just puzzled that changes are not reflected.
