Enable CCC without .htaccess?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

One of the new features I was looking forward to most with 4.1 was the performance (CCC), as my site was running pretty slow. So, after upgrading from 1.37 one of the first things I did was generate a new .htaccess and enable CCC. Instead of improved performance, however, I just kept getting a 500 internal server error. After a couple of days tearing my hair out I found out that the problem was that my host (Streamline.net) only supports mod_rewrite in .htaccess so the new (CCC) commands were causing the error.

My question is, therefore, is there a way of enabling caching and compression without using .htaccess. At the moment I have CCC enabled in BO but obviously this is only combing and minifying the CSS and JS, not compressing or caching it. I know I could use php scripts in the combined files and rename them with a .php extension, but this requires changing all references to the files which is time-consuming, messy and not good for updating in the future.

Obviously the easiest solution would be to move host, but I stupidly signed up for two years before I knew anything about this! If this is the only solution, however, does anybody recommend a good UK host for prestashop?

Cheers.

OK, really sorry for bumping this but I would really appreciate some help. I've searched and searched but cannot seem to find a solution. Basically, does anyone know if it is possible to enable compression and caching of css, js and images without editing .htaccess. I'm not after a step by step tutorial, just a push in the right direction!

Sorry, i don't have a fix (yet) but what you have said may indicate why a 1.4 site that was working fine on my old host is now getting stuck on a .htaccess issue that I cannot fix (I have fixed for Wordpress sites that I also moved from old host to new host).

If I get a flash of inspiration I'll let you know!
