Is it ok to delete original images of products in prestashop?

We are using like 300GB of disk space and it is mainly used by images. Its a huge shop with over 120k products

We have different size of original images. Some big and some small, but I think the original is not used anywhere.

I tried for one product with id 10 and renamed the original image from 10.jpg to __10.jpg so it is like its deleted

Then tried any place the product image is visible:
- Product page
- Cart
- Order details
- Back office order detail
- Back office product page
- Back office product combinations tab
- Back office shopping carts

It was ok like before.

But when it comes to large disk usage we need to do more and maybe delete them

Depend on images format and size. Consider changing to webp.

The problem that you would have if you delete the original image is that you would not be able to regenerate them or create new sizes.

Additionally I realized that if you delete them, the thumbnail will be unavailable.

You could try download all the original photos, then resize them all to the bigger size you need, and re-upload them.
You can also check to use the correct quality of jpg. For example I never use higher quality than 86%.
