Container size image large_default

When display full image on product details image container is too small. Increasing image size doesn`t make any difference When I increase number of images to a product. the large_default image container shrink as thumbnails use more space. How can I increase size of container, even than means to get rid of other thumbnails? I want that container to use 80-90 % height of screen
